As of June 2024, there are 2,345 ships registered with the Hong Kong Shipping Registry, with a total registered tonnage of 132 million. Globally, Hong Kong is the fourth largest shipping registry.
2. DKSH and their Commitment to People
DKSH is focused on three priorities. They are Operational Excellence, Growth and People. The key Human Resources priorities within the industry include driving operational and cost efficiency, digitalisation and simplification of the business, increasing white space to drive efficiency, and continuously reviewing and enhancing their working capital. All initiatives require a seamless alignment with business objectives and people, making People is a key strategic pillar for DKSH.
3. Human Resources Effectiveness
To support diverse business operations, HR plays a vital role in the success of its daily operations. The key areas of contribution includes:
- Workforce Planning: Ensuring the company operates at optimal efficiency.
- Talent Acquisition and Development: Attracting young leaders to enter the industry and develop their potential.
- Succession Planning: Encouraging managers to continuously drive innovative changes, offer solutions to their clients, and build long-term partnerships.
- Techology Advancement and Big Data: Leveraging technology and data to enhance efficiency and streamline work processes.
4. Importance of Culture
Culture is a combination of what they do and what they say. In other words, it reflects the daily behaviours of employees and how they put their values into practice. To thrive in a world where their employees, clients and consumers are facing new challenges and opportunities – new generations of workers, new ways of working, and new expectations, DKSH forsters a shared guiding culture based on trust, collaboration, learning, giving back, connectedness, and high performance to help the company succeed.
Therefore, the communication of the company’s purpose, values and People DNA must be embedded in everything they do internally and externally to their clients.
Companies with strong cultures are more likely to attract and retain employees, resulting in higher employee satisfaction, better business results, and improved financial performance. Strengthening company culture benefits employees, clients, customers, and the company itself.
5. Investing in their Employees
At DKSH, they invest in their employees to help them develop and grow. They enhance presentation skills and support employees to build self-confidence when engaging clients. They help employees strengthen negotiation capabilities to achieve favorable outcomes, demonstrate deep client understanding and responsiveness for their client’s needs and exhibit exceptional professionalism in all work activities.
Over their 2-year journey, they have significantly increased their training programmes dramatically and more and more employees take their training programmes to develop and sharpen their skills. Investing in their employees’ growth is a win-win situation for both employees and DKSH.
